Research Into Camera Shots

As I don't have much past experience with filming. I wanted to research how to use cameras and techniques that would help me achieve a professional looking piece which could help me achieve a high grade. To start with I looked at a few YouTube videos to help me get a basic understanding of what I am doing. I know what equipment I have to use and so I have looked at videos that involve these. For example I have looked at videos that are how to use a DSLR Camera and a Steadicam as i know these are items I will be using in my project.

After looking at other A level examples. I have found that trying to keep the camera steady is a problem for many of them even with the use of a Steadicam. To counter this I have researched into combating this by finding steady places to position the camera and creating homemade items that can move the camera steadily. There's also the option of hiring a "Tripod Track" where I would position the tripod to run smoothly across it to achieve a smooth shot.

I know that there is a likely possibility that some of the footage I shoot will end up being shaky, and so I have looked at how to remove the shakiness through Adobe software.

A Level Example Analysis and Response

I have looked at multiple examples from previous years music video's. This will help me figure out what I need to do to achieve my desired grade and what to avoid to prevent an amateur looking and low grade video. To start with I looked at previous year candidate Holly Norton's "Colours" because she achieved almost top marks for her video/blog. She had 50 blog posts before January which were made up of research into her music video and ancillary products. She had also used a range of media to showcase her work such as Prezi, Info-graphics, slideshows etc. This made her blog seem more interesting and showed a variety of skill. This is something I feel I need to apply to my work as I have so far only written out my work onto blogger and it has lacked other forms of presentation. To solve this I will go back and try and increase the quality of my work by putting my work into more interesting forms of media.

Looking at her music video, she has managed to keep the camera steady and used an array of shots that make the video seem professionally made. She has also included interesting special effects and synced the music to what is happening on screen. These are quality's of a music video that I am not experienced with and so I will have to research how to keep the camera steady and how to execute these different types of shots.

Teacher Feedback

I received feedback from my teacher on what I need to improve on to make sure my work is to a high standard. From reading this I have gone back and increase the standard of my posts and make sure they are rich in detail and ensure that they apply to the brief given.

Target Audience Research

Target Audience Research

My chosen target audience is between the ages of 16-25. I have chosen this age group because the ages of 20-24 years old are the primary consumers of online music videos. This means my video will appeal to the widest audience i can appeal to. The most common way people watch music video's is on the computer, 70% of videos are consumed on the computer and 30% being consumed in otherwise (phones, TV, etc) This means to appeal to the most audience i need to create an  advertisement that should make people want to search for my advertisement online.

To find out what my audience wants, I have created a questionnaire and gathered suggestions on what they would most like to see in a music video. As i do not have access to many 20+ year olds i have had to use primarly 17/18 year olds which could affect my results as i do not have a wide range of my target audience but i still have feedback from ages within that age range which i can apply to my work. This will hopefully give me an indication of what my target audience is looking for.

I have made a mind map to show the pro's and con's of each age group and genre to help me decide what my target audience should be and how to cater to them.
